New Classroom Furniture Arrives
Just before the winter break, Life University took delivery of 655 chairs and 212 tables; brand new furniture for 13 labs and 2 classrooms.

In the CUS building, the labs got 255 chairs and stools, 12 new work tables, and 5 metal storage cabinets. In CCE building, C1 and C2 got 200 tables and 400 chairs.

The chairs in C1 and C2 were selected for comfort after being chosen by students in a "seat test" a while ago. The tables "gang together" or can be separated for maximum flexibility and use of space to support active learning classroom activities.

The new furniture was part one of Phase I of the Classroom Project, part two is the renovation of C127 and is being scheduled for summer break 2013.

Judge Nix Scholarship Established
The Honorable Kenneth O. “Judge” Nix passed away October 24th, 2012.  Judge Nix was a pillar in Cobb County for decades, having spent more than 20 years on the Cobb County Circuit Court, in the Georgia State Legislature, and as a long serving member of the Board of Trustees for Life University.  Nix was also a fixture on the campus of Life University, from being an adjunct faculty member in the College of Undergraduate Studies to serving as Santa Claus for the annual Christmas Party.

Life University President Dr. Guy Riekeman said of Nix’s passing, “Judge Nix was a loyal friend of Life University and a real character, full of life, humor and charisma. He will be missed.”

To honor Judge Nix contributions, the Board of Trustees established a $25,000 endowed scholarship at LIFE. The University anticipates friends and acquaintances of Judge Nix may want to contribute to the scholarship. Those inquiries should be directed to Greg Harris at Greg.Harris@LIFE.edu.

Real World: DCs Recap

In early January, Drs. Claire (’88), Kristen (’04) and Steve Welsh (’96) welcomed 10 students into their Roswell practice for another installment of Real World: DCs. LIFE students in attendance gained an abundance of knowledge varying from politics to success.

Twice a quarter, the Department of Alumni Relations invites our alumni to host a student networking event in their offices. During this informational session, alumni are able to showcase their practice and develop a rapport with the students.

In spite of inclement weather, we had a great turnout and received positive feedback from the students. RW is a valuable and fun way for students to begin thinking about their future careers. If you are interested in hosting a RW even in your office, please contact the Department of Alumni Relations at Alumni@LIFE.edu

2012-2013 Faculty/Staff Campaign Ended with a Bang!
The faculty and staff of Life University have stepped up in a major way! In addition to keeping LIFE a leader in education, these dedicated, hardworking individuals (many of whom are not LIFE alumni) have committed their financial support to help students with scholarships and improved facilities. The giving commitment of our faculty and staff is an example of leadership, thus paving the way for others to follow.

For the past few years, the Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign has been building momentum.  Everyone really took initiative this year and stepped up to make it the most successful campaign to date with gifts and pledges reaching nearly $50,000! Gifts specifically supported the William E. Harris Center, Capital Research and Rugby as well as the President's Circle and a scholarship fund. This year's campaign co-chairs were Drs. Ron Kirk and Tim Gross.

Athletics Update

Greg Thomas named Conference Player of the Week
Greg Ruff, TranSouth Athletic Conference spokesman, announced Life University's Greg Thomas as the conference's Player of the Week, beginning January 7. Thomas was chosen for his impressive contribution to Friday night's win over Point University at home.

Thomas, a 6-3 senior guard from Savannah, Ga., led Life to a 80-69 win over Point (Ga.) University with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. He added 4-of-5 shooting at the foul line and pitched in three rebounds and two assists.

Thomas delivered a personal-best 22 points against Pikeville University in November, and then again versus Emmanuel College two weeks later. He is ranked No. 31 in the NAIA in field goal percentage (.532) on the season, and No. 49 in points per game (16.3). LIFE Takes Down Conference Rival Blue Mountain, 89-60
It was a fun game to watch Tuesday night in the Eagles' Nest as the Running Eagles (11-8) defeated Blue Mountain College (6-12) at home, 89-60. What started out as a fair match between the conference rivals quickly moved into LIFE's favor once the Running Eagles gained momentum and ran away with the lead at the start of the second half. Tonight's win advances the Running Eagles to a 3-1 record in the TranSouth Conference.

Life University had a balanced attack with every Running Eagle scoring and an impressive six players in double figures. LIFE was led by TranSouth Conference Player of the Week, Latraius Mosley, who had 14 points and 8 steals, followed by Mike Robertson who had 14 points of his own. Barrington Ferguson tallied 13 points and 5 assists, and Ramon Walker had 12 points. Andrew Woods and Chris Beasley rounded out LIFE’s double figure scorers with  10 points apiece. Blue Mountain was led by Shane Butler who scored 11 points.
